In 1961, MCWAP “Mother And Children Fortnight” for the purpose of collecting funds for the sale of specially designed mother & child seals. The event was inaugurated by “Mr. A.R Cornelius (Late)”, the chief justice of Pakistan. The sale of seals enabled MCWAP to mobilize funds as well as effectively projected the message of the organization. As a result of seal sales, a handsome amount of Rs. 57000/- was collected and a community health center was established on July 13, 1961 on Dil Muhammad Road, Lahore.
MCWAP started publishing a quarterly magazine namely: “Mother & Child” in English language from the very start. This publication has been serving a very useful purposes of providing information to MCH workers and other health professionals.
In 1963 MCWA Sialkot was established and it started a family based primary health care project in a rental building at Fateh Garh in Sialkot with emphasis on reproductive health. It covers a population of around 20,000.
In recognition of 1965 war relief activities, a social welfare award was given to Dr. Gulshan Haqiq Mirza of MCWA Jhelum by the government of Punjab.
In addition to the above, a number of certificates were received by MCWA Jhelum from the following well known social welfare agencies, on different occasions.
MCWAP Sindh was established on 23rd January 1971 to coordinate and to promote MCH activities in the province of Sindh.
In 1986, a primary health care workshop was successfully jointly- organized by organization to review the:
Primary health situation in the country
Identify the problem areas
Suggest solutions
And to prepare plans of action for the improvement of primary health care network.
In 1986, Prof. Dr. Mrs. Mahmuda Mubashar received award for leadership for creating a conductive climate and in motivating the critical sections of the society about the benefits of Planned Parenthood and a small family.
In November 1987, Madame De Wattevile received the MCWAP gold medal award from General Muhammad Zia Ul Haq, President Islamic Republic of Pakistan, at the inauguration of 3rd international congress of IAMANEH.
From 9 to 11 Oct, 1989 a regional congress of SAARC countries and China was organized by MCWAP in collaboration with IAMANEH at Avari hotel, Lahore. The countries represented were Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and China. Pakistan was the host country. The theme of the congress was “innovation in family planning and MCH for better mother & child survival”.
Delegates from Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam also participated in the congress. Most of the foreign delegates were sponsored by IAMANEH. The congress generated a lot of interest in maternal and child health and family planning.
Between 1993-1996 MCWAP organized two centers in Skardu, located in the Valley of Karakoram Mountains with funding from Trust for Voluntery organization (TVO). The region is characterized by severe socio economic under development.
Unfortunately with the termination of funding in 1996, it became impossible for MCWAP to maintain these two centers. The closure of Sundas Rural Center was a great disappointment for the beneficiary community which lacked resources to sustain the project on its town. The Skardu center kept functioning with some private donations and funding from NATPOW, but it focused only on population welfare.
On March 1st, 2000 MCWAP started a new research project “The Acceptability Of Contraceptive By Men And Women In Punjab, Pakistan”. This project received financial support from the special programme of research development and research training in human reproduction, WHO, Geneva, Switzerland.
In 2004 MCWAP successfully developed “Rural Health Project” models in congested, poor, slum areas which have proved that motherhood can be made safe and child survival rate can be enhanced. It demonstrated highly appreciable fall in infant mortality and maternal mortality rates in our service areas.
In August 2004, MCWAP started a new project in collaboration with FPAP at Roranwala village at Bedian Road, Lahore. In which FPAP provided the equipment’s and partial salaries of LHVs & TBSs for some time.
On December 30, 2004 a one day training workshop on “Project Development” was jointly organized by the by MCWAP & NATPOW.
On 18th July 2005, a world population day was organized to raise awareness of public about the theme that “Each Women And Child Is A Unique And Valuable Human Being Entitled To Equal Opportunities In Life”.
On 19th April ,2005, an “Annual Baby Show” was organized at Dera Chahal MCH center by MCWAP.
On 8th December, 2005 a seminar on “Role of Civil Society in Millennium Development Goals (MDgs)” was jointly organized by MCWAP & NATPOW.
In 2005, a “one day free medical camp” was organized at Dera Chahal center by MCWAP.
On 20th February 2010, the annual conference on “MDGs Maternal and Child Health- Can We Really Get There in the Next Five Years” was held in Holiday Inn hotel, Lahore.
On 15th May 2010, in its meeting the executive committee gave approval for opening of new MCH center. This center was opened in Makkah Colony, Lahore.
